This place makes me happy.
First of all, let's talk about that breading. It's perfect. Crispy, light. It doesn't overpower the fish. It doesn't leave your palate feeling all greasy like those chain joints.
The fries are pretty standard fare. Hush puppies are dense and flavorful, deep fried deliciousness.
They offer two different kinds of cole slaw but I'm partial to Mary's. It's creamy and crisp.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. -

What an unassuming gem. When you first see the name you think 'fishy donuts' and well you'd be totally wrong. We went there for Sunday at brunch time. I was planning on getting brunch items but the smell of the fish was too good to pass up so I got the fish and chips. The fries were really good and the fish was very tender and juicy without being at all oily that you usually get with fried fish. Definitely be back for the fish and chips.
Yes we did get beignets........and they were GREAT!
We will definitely be back! -

Don't judge a restaurant by its cover or its decor. Extremely friendly owner & employees. Delicious fish, although it needed some salt, but I am okay with shaking it on myself. We were given an extra piece of fish too. The jalapeño tartar is not hot; surprise! The beignet was good. I would return & recommend eating here.
The decor is eclectic, for sure. (See photos.) I was told that the original owner was given a Marilyn Monroe poster, & he hung it on the wall to the restroom. After that, people thought that he collected Marilyn items, and that's how he acquired his collection. Funny. -

I think I picked the absolute worst day to come here... The weekend after Mardi Gras and the first Friday of lent... Nevertheless, even though it was busy it didn't stop me from having a wonderful experience here!
I always find places interesting when they are split up into two. Although I have yet to try Cafe Beignet and I really want to, The Fish House lived up wonderfully to my expectations.
It's a little tough to park here during lunch rush. There's a small parking lot, but you may end up having to street park. The restaurant is small and while it does have quite a bit of seating, the line can easily end up right out of the door.
The food here is fantastic and inexpensive. I got the catfish sandwich and loved it! Another thing that really stuck out to me was how personable the staff are here. They treat you like their friend while they are helping you order and I like that.
This is a great option if you need something meatless for Lent, or if you just want to try a new place for some great seafood. -

The Fish House is the place to have the best fried clams, fried mushrooms and large juicy fried shrimp. I went to school in Boston, where fried clams are everywhere including the airport. But being landlocked, we always longed for this seafood treat until until we found this place. You can get it on a meal or our favorite, a la carte. We always get the same thing, Fried Clams, a dozen fried shrimp, and an order of hot large fried mushrooms. Everything is cooked when you order at the register. It comes out piping hot, crunchy and delicious. Pair them with with one of their signature cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or my favorite, the green jalapeño sauce, creamy, with just the right spice. This jalapeño sauce is so good, that I eat it on saltines while I wait for my food. The mushrooms come with a New Orleans style remoulade that is spicy and creamy perfection.
On a cold day, try their legit New England seafood chowder. And if you need a taste of Nola, try their yummy beignets.
Whether is lent or not, get your taste for yummy fried seafood right here in Louisville with a taste of the Bayou.
